And do I need to flash Shift Kernal?

  29. Richard says:

Hey guys, so I just flashed this ROM on my Tmobile Note 2 and it’s amazing. Loving it so far. My only complaint is that backlight for the hardware keys won’t turn off even after I selected it to be off permanently. They’re off while I use the screen but as soon as I press the Menu or Back key they turn on. Is anybody else having this issue or is this just how the ROM was built? I know I can disable the keys and get the navigation bar but I prefer the hardware keys. :l

    Hi Max
This rom was working very well, very fast had no problems

until the audio started to fail, i couldnt play music through my earphones
and then a few days later hte stock music app just completely failed on me

i also noticed i couldnt change wallpapers (maybe this is a problem that has nothing to do with the rom itself)

anyways i would like to know what i should do to resolve
( im using a temporary fix with the app soundabout but i have to sacrifice one audio output to use it)

  34. Chuck Almero says:

    What is up???

First and foremost, thank you for all the great video tutorials! Unfortunately, I have come into a problem that I can’t find a solution to.

I own a rooted SGH-i317, and just recently I successfully installed CyanideL 5.1 Lollipop ROM with the help of your video. After a day or two, I rebooted the device and it gets stuck on the CyanideL boot loop animation. So just as the instructions states, I go to CWM Recovery, select Mounts & Storage and then select Format/system. This is where the problem happened.

Once I rebooted, the device is stuck on the boot logo screen (Samsung Galaxy Note II). I tried restoring my backup, wiping the partition and even factory reset, but none has worked for me.

I did more research, and came upon reinstalling the stock firmware via Odin to Unroot/Unbrick my device. And every time I open the stock SGH-i317 tar.md5 firmware file, ODIN crashes. The drivers are installed, and ODIN recognizes my device. But it soon crashes once I open the extracted firmware file. This is where I’m currently stuck.

I feel that I’m almost close to solving my problem, but I can’t seem to find any solution right now. So I thought to ask you if you know another way.

Thanks in advance, hope to hear from you soon.

  35. Bill Franklin says:

I installed this on my tmobile note 2. I could not get the shift kernel to install, I try a few times. No error codes just said installation failed. I did continue with the install. It seems to be running alright but 2 things i thought were fixed were Netflix and the camera. Netflix will run right up to the point that it is loading a video, but the video never shows. The camera will only work with the camera that comes with the rom and only one camera works. If anybody can shed any light on these problems I will appreciate it. Thanks.

    • Keith says:

Did you ever figure out what to do about the kernel? I tried the updated rom and it does the same thing only says E:Can’t make /tmp/update_binary

ROM still need some tweaking for Verizon note II. the camera works face forward no option to turn rotate camera video mode cause a camera connect error. but rom is stable.

    Max,
I have Galaxy Note 4 and my phone is stuck on first phase of bootloop. It’s displaying Samsung Galaxy Note 2 letters and screen goes out then repeating same process on and on and on. I tried to put it in the recovery mode (Volume up, home button, and power button), but it’s not working. It’s keep looping. I turn off my phone for few hours and tried again and it’s same thing. Do you have an answer for me to fix this problem?

    Thanks,

  39. Keith says:

I seem to be having a little problem. I installed this rom and everything works so far for the most part but the issue I have is my Navigon gps app. It worked fine prior to the installation now after installing Navigon and it does its update for the necessary files it fc. I am not sure what the problem is. I had Liquidsmooth 4.4.4 installed and it worked with that rom

  40. SamB says:

    Got there in the end!

I have a N7105 international version and I had previously rooted my phone and had been running CleanROM (4.1.2) for perhaps 2 years. The phone has been brilliant with that ROM and any attempts I made to update didn’t work so I just stuck with that one. I was rather keen to move to Lollipop and thought I would try this ROM. I think my experience will probably help someone so here’s what I’ve been through.

Phone was previously rooted with ClockWorkMod 6.something. I believe it was current. This Cyanide L ROM failed to work. CWM believed my phone was a different model to what it actually was. I had never had this issue before.

I used Odin to flash the Samsung stock ROM onto my phone. I was now running KitKat and my phone was no longer rooted (at least as far as I could tell)

I rooted my phone using TWRP and Odin. I downloaded the appropriate file from TWRP and flashed it to the phone using Odin 3.07. I tried using a newer version of Odin initially but that ended up being loaded with spyware. A system restore later and I was back on track, using Odin 3.07.

Booting into TWRP (volume up, home, power button) I was now able to flash this Cyanide ROM, the kernel and gapps onto the phone.

Lollipop was working but I found a lot of my apps didn’t make the transition. I believe my having apps installed on the removable sd card was a factor here but it could just be the apps themselves. I had to reinstall a lot of apps but that’s not a big deal for me.

The sound out of the speaker and call volume was terrible. Go to the settings and under ‘Customization’ there is a thing called STweaks. Go in there and under audio enable BOEFFLA Audio, FLL Tuning and Speaker Tuning. This made a massive difference to the sound.

My GPS was also not working. There is a post above from Wozi that has a link to a zip file that you can flash (TWRP for me). It worked a charm.

Now my phone is working brilliantly. Thanks all for the information on this page.

  41. Brad says:

Fully customizable save for some stuff that I shouldn’t mess with probably.

I have issues with 2 things though.

1). Couldn’t use Play Store after it downloaded. Kept closing before it even opened.

2). Though I read that it would change my T889 to an N7105, is that something that can damage my Note 2 in the future? Like if I try to flash a stock or custom ROM for T889?

Otherwise, thanks for collecting all this stiff in one near and orderly place. I’m currently using TEAMUB and it’s crashing quite a bit.

    • Max Lee says:

      1. Format system and reinstall ROM, that will make the FC go away.

      2. It only changes the model number in About phone, it does not change the hardware model number and they are fully compatible so no worries.

  42. Keith says:

Well one problem I have just encountered is with voicemail. On previous roms I have had no problems using my password to retrieve my voicemail now with this one its telling me I have the wrong password

    • Rita says:

Help, Help, Help, I’m having the save problem, and I can not replace the dialer. Did you find an answer.

  43. Ian Ford says:

I had trouble with force closing until I checked the Cyanide version, it was 5.0.2 – so I installed gapps for Android 5.0.x and it works great! Also, there is a GPS fix that works perfectly (I did the hw only version), located in in this XDA thread

Love this rom, except for one issue: The handset in-call volume is low. Headphones, bluetooth, and speakerphone are lovely after tweaking the “tiny.xml” file in /system/etc/volume. The handset volume didn’t change at all, even with Boeffla audio tweaks. How can I boost it otherwise – am I missing something?

Thanks for any help, and keep up the good work. Gonna donate to you now, this ROM rocks!

    Hi guys!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been battling my At&t Note 2 with constant crashes and stuck on boot loops since DAY ONE. I even sent it off to Samsung to be fixed. They did absolutely nothing that fixed it, it shortly resumed the same behaviors and it would NEVER update to new software. So now finally almost 2 years later I found this web site and educated myself on how to root and use custom roms. Hallelujah I got it on the first try!!!! My phone works perfect!!! You guys rock! Wish I would have gotten the nerve to do it sooner! Thanks again!!

      • Chris says:

I too am getting the Google play services stopped working constantly. Has no one found out how to fix this yet

        • Robin Son says:

I too had a problem kind of like that on my i605. I just played with it until I got into my Settings/ Apps and forced stopped that app. That didn’t work so I uninstalled it from there.
          It Stopped!
From what I see, this rom will sometimes try to bring all your old apps and settings to this rom .
That’s the problem because i was still on a 4.1.2 rom. Then i ran the S5/note 3 rom and just tried this one. I new what happened off the top because on the install this rom asked would i like to install the latest backup and i hit yes.

          • Robin Son says:

This is a Very Nice Rom but it doesn’t have 3 way calling and when i tried to place someone on hold it will drop the call or i can’t return them.

  50. Davis says:

Can CyanideL ROM install on Zenfone 2 ?? Thanks

  51. Samuel says:

Works perfect on my spring note 2 flash to boost only issue for me is video playback

  52. Matin says:

    Hi

I’m new to the whole custom ROM scene. I have a few questions, hopefully someone will be able to answer, as i said i’m very new to this. I currently own N7015T. Now i don’t understand what the shift kerner is, is this just to get my device to Android 5.1? Or am i wrong? And is CyanideL the custom ROM? Please someone answer this for me, i’m annoyed at Kit Kat as it doesn’t allow me to add things to my SD card.

Download CyanideL ROM for AT&T SGH-i317, T-Mobile SGH-T889, GT-N7105, or Canadian SGH-i317M – Is this the custom ROM?

Download Shift Kernel for Android 5.1 (for all AT&T, T-Mobile, GT-N7105, Canadian, and Verizon) – Is this the OS lollipop?

Also if someone can write up a basic guide for me, as to which i would go about installing first. Again i’m very new to this, so please keep it simple.

    Thanks in advance.

    • samuel says:

first u flash the Rom then the kernel. The kernel isn’t the os the Rom is but the kernel fixes a few issues and is stable

  53. MrTurtle says:

    Hi

Just read this guide. Seems fairly simple to install. I’m currently using TWRP for recovery. I can make a backup of everything except my data using this, though everything else works. Now my question is, how would i go about unrooting/un-bricking my phone if things were to go sideways? Is there any information on this currently? Or would just me the same steps as all others listed on the web?

Is TWRP enough or would i need to download a system image?
Would Samsung Kies work with rooted device? If no, what app would you recommend?

    • samuel says:

don’t really use twrp I use cwm and don’t think u would Brick your phone when flashing this Rom but if u do use Odin to go back to stock and start over or flash a different Rom might get out the bootloop/brick

      • MrTurtle says:

        Hey Sameul

Thanks for the reply man, really appreciate it. I’m not really sure where to download CRW from, if you can provide me with a link would appreciate it. Just bout to start flashing my ROM now. Would you happen to know any issues to look out for?

        • samuel says:

not sure what note 2 u using I have the Sprint note 2 ever phone is different. I was running cwm 6.07.9 which was the best for Sprint and had no issues except I had to flash a boost mobile apn fix cause my phone was flashed

          • MrTurtle says:

I’m using N7105, it’s an Australia one. I flashed it with TWRP before as i wanted to install another rom. Is there a link where i can re-download CWM? Every link i click just says the website is no longer running.

  54. Homer says:

Are you able to tether using the Sprint version of this rom?

  55. Vine says:

Can Anyone help? I flashed the latest version of this rom but kept getting reboots whenever i plugged the phone on pc. 🙁

    • MrTurtle says:

Only thing i can suggest is to do a factory reset of your phone, after backing up your data.

      • Vine says:

I did a full system swipe and data before flashing with the latest twrp cause cwm doesnt wipe at all. I flashed again and it still rebooted/stick to bootloop whenever i plugged the charger or to pc :'(

  56. John says:

Max just want to say we all appreciate your great work. This is my first time writing to you but I’d like to ask if there is a cyanide 5.1-rc-13.0-l900.zip ROM available for download at download android.com is this the newest version available and should I still use the shift for the 5.0 or the 5.1 that does not list sprint. Thanks so much.

    • John says:

I did install the 5.1.1 version and the 5.1 kernal and I love it , runs great everything works great out of the box but still no Netflix. Hoping that someone can tell what kernel to use to fix this Netflix issue.

  57. Rufus says:

Does this rom support the S Pen functions which you get in the stock Note 2 rom? The hover thingy and all.

  58. onyonsilk says:

I have a i317 note 2 and i install your ROM but back camera not working. Is there a fix? i love this ROM

  59. Troy says:

For those having an issue with the Sprint L900 version and this rom with Gapps, use the Android 5.0 version of Gapps to start with. That seemed to do the trick for me.
