Here’s a quick ROM overview of RootBox ROM for Galaxy Note 2. This ROM is available for all Galaxy Note 2s including GT-N7100, AT&T SGH-i317 (i317 ROMs are compatible also with T-Mobile SGH-T889, GT-N7105, and SHV-e250), Sprint SPH-L900, and Verizon SCH-i605. (For Korean Note 2 SHV-e250 series, you do need to install SJKernel for your appropriate carrier such as SKTelecom, LG U+, or KT).
The RootBox ROM is a ROM for those of you looking for the bleeding edge of Android operating system with full Android 4.2.1 and cool features like full AOKP ROM Control settings and Xposed App Installer (which allows you to modify DPI, resolution, language, and other parameters of each app to run in Phone/Tablet mode).
RootBox ROM is very similar to JellyBAM ROM, just a slightly different build offering many of the same things.
Of course, don’t forget with an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM like RootBox ROM, you will lose much of Samsung TouchWiz features like S-pen native apps, multi-window, and Smart Stay/Rotation. It’s not for everyone but for those of you who want to run “pure” Android or want to try what all the fuss is all about with latest Android 4.2.1 and custom ROMing.

Note: These are “ports” for the various different Note 2s. Depending on which port you use, your mileage/bugs may differ on each one but they should all be stable enough to use as daily drivers. Also developers of these ROMs do update the ROM often, you can check the XDA thread under credits section below to check for the latest versions. Some of the ports do also offer PIE Controls, you can also add it manually, see How to Add PIE Control.

To install, download the appropriate ROM for your Note 2, reboot into recovery, do wipe data/factory reset, install and reboot. If you find Play Store missing after installing ROM, just reboot into recovery and install Gapps thereafter.

Jedi X is good for most Note 2s, on the N7100 I am using Alliance. I am more fan of multi-window atm but Android 4.2.1 is pretty nice too running on couple of my Note 2s also.
So I just flashed this ROM, no google play store…?
Just installed it and NO GOOGLE PLAY STORE WHAT THE HELL HOW DO I GET IT WORKING….?????THANKS

Yea its a very nice ROM my experience with it is that I only had problem initially due to lack of knowledge of not knowing that I had to install latest gapps for android 4.2. Other than that no touch wiz and no i’m not missing it also, like the per app settings its awesome. Also no issue with batteery or functionality. Huge fan of this rom’s functionality and theme settings.
For me its working flawlessly and very fast absolutely no heat up or battery drainage issue. I intend to stick to it for a while. I am using this on Canadian wind note 2 which is similar to America’s T-Mobile set. Downloaded and installed AT&T’s ROM variant.

Did not like this one to much. No one handed options. This phone is big. We need one handed options for the keyboard and dial pad at least.
I’m having a issue with charging. The icon say’s it is charging but after having it on all night it stays around 33 to 45%. May have to go back to Jedi X X

Jedi X is awesome. I like it a lot also being touchwiz. I just reinstalled a few min ago. I’m trying to find more roms for the gn2. Try is out is has a few more options than jedi x9.
So what is the difference between this and any other 4.2.1 rom?
Tried the Jedi ROM and both master and x are the best for note 2 but they are version 4.1. Tried the AOKP 4.2.1 it is good but if I remember correctly this ROM has more customization options and the per app setting pretty cool. Other than that yea its a personal choice and memo(by nathan)forr spen is nice crashes a bit but still good.
I’m using Jedi XX but seems like there are little annoying bugs in it…I’m think to try jellybean 4.2.1. Is it stable? Which rom would be the most stable…I want stalk android with some Samsung apps and multi windows. ..is that possible?
I love this rom! But when you install Swiftkey flow beta on it, you dont get the flow effect. So I dropped it and switched back to AOKP build 3.
If I install AOKP Android 4.2.1 Jellybean, can I still use my external card on my Note 2?
I noticed on this rom that the max music volume is very soft on third party music players. I use power amp and found that it is really soft compared to play music. And i think everything is softer in general. Do you know how to fix that??
Yea allot of people are having that problem. I think that if you flash beats over the current one it would fix it.
Do you think you can send me a link to download beats for this rom? and would it delete my Play Music? and would it efffect my other programs like dsp manager and power amp?

The beats app in in the pkay store. Just search beats. Installing it will not delete anything. As far as the search bar there should be an option to take it away in the settings somewhere. Its in the actualrom settings .

Hey! All of a sudden i can’t connect to my mobile network at first i could and was just not able to send text messages but now i’m not able to connect at all. It all started when my battery became low. I even restored from a backup when everything worked fine and it still doesnt work!!!! Can anyone help me?! Under network mode it says WCDMA preferred is that suppose to say that?
Nevermind i solved the problem i just had to change the network mode!
Ugh nevermind it doesnt work but i can get text messages now -_-
This ROM is terrible! A big mess, random reboots…kills my battery. Chrome Crashes, cant see my SD card…too many issue….
I just want a smooth ROM with no bugs….
One word: Jedi X. No probs whatsoever for me, smooth as silk. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

im loving this ROM, only issue i seem to keep having with the 4.2.1 roms ive tried is i cant seem to receive picture messages…it comes up, but when i go to click on it it opens up a blank text message template…any suggestions?
Try another sms app and if the error still happens it may be a rom bug.

I installed this but it has no signal, imei came up blank, blank apn, baseband unknown but I install jedi x or master and it works fine.
I had that same problem. They just updated the nightly for 4.2.2 so download the latest one and it should be fine
where do i get the update because my root box is on 4.2.1
i have read that there is a rootbox rom running on 4.2.2 any news on that and how to instal
im pretty sure i followed instructions right is ot normal for root box to reboot phone and flash four light beams and a a box that says root box its been doing it for a couple mintues lol should i go buy a new phone or will it work
I’ve got a serious battery drain problem on an ATT I317 using this method. Once rooted using [galaxynote2root.com], it drains battery in about 4-5 hours – it was usually 2 days. Unit is even warm to the touch. I’ve tried three (3) different batteries. Strangely, if I swap batteries with a fresh 100% charged battery, it will not start until I plug in the power supply (USB) cable. When it shows 100% (almost immediately) it will then boot.
I’ve looked at every diagnostic available – no luck. No ONE program is sucking abnormal power. I’ve tried all sorts of settings for power savings, including GPS, wifi, bluetooth, screen, mobile data, you name it.
I unrooted the phone, went to stock ROM, same thing. 4-5 hours and they’re dead. IMHO ATT snuck something in that causes this, and apparently is elusive to even the smartest us to find what they did.
I’ve seen multiple posts about this problem all over the forums, and none have been answered. More and more posts every day.
Anybody have ANY ideas?
You must flash android 4.2.1 gasps in order to get the play store and Gmail. And also does anyone know if there is a multi Window mod? That’s the only thing I miss about touch wiz but regardless loving this aokp rom :3 best rom I’ve tried.
Since the rom took the stock music player off how do you sbeam a music file? I can do everything else but music file. Im using a note 2 tmobile thanks for any feed back
