Probably one of the coolest features of rooting and custom ROMs/Kernels is that you can overclock your phone to a blazing CPU frequency, resulting in a Note 2 that can run near 30-50% faster than a stock phone.

Well, if you have a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 SGH-T889 (or Canadian models starting with SGH-T889), you can install the Bullet kernel that supports up to a whopping 1.9Ghz overclocking. Now, not all phones support such high CPU clock speeds but who knows, you might be one of the lucky ones.

Luckily, my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 does support 1.9Ghz overclocking with stability.

You can install this kernel on any stock ROM or custom ROM running Android 4.1.1 and use overclocking app like SetCPU to overclock to your desired speed. For daily usage, I recommend 1.7 or 1.8Ghz and for those of you hardcore gamers, you can try 1.9Ghz.

I do notice a vast improvement in speed with all the Note 2s with overclocking more so than older Android smartphones, I believe this is most likely due to the fact that there’s 4 CPU cores and you are essentially overclocking all four of them.

  3. Ricky says:

I don’t know why but i only get 5088 on the quadrant test. i am running my phone at 1.8 Ghz with Jedi x-7 Rom. not sure why my numbers are so much lower than the phone in the video.

    • Rowlan says:

Start ROM toolbox go to CPU control set the governor to “pegasusq”. Also of you have t Mobil you can now overclock your sgh-t889 to 1.9ghz. See if that helps. Let me know the outcome…

i have set cpu. but when i run at full 1600 mhz, my phone gets hot. If I ran it at 1.8-1.9 mhz, would that overheat and kill my phone? If so, is there a way to cool down the phone with a fan?

    • Max Lee says:

no will not kill your phone when overclocked. these chips are pretty solid your phone will simply turn off if it gets too hot first.

I have a N-7100. Its might be a silly question but is it possible to make it look like a SGH-T889? I mean, what if I find a way to change the model number inside the phone(and other stuff) so the Bullet Kernel would work. Both models doesn’t have many differences in hardware, especially the proccessor. I guess it is possible, do you have any idea about this?

    • rr says:

Oh I didn’t know there was already a kernel for 7100 that OCs to 1.92mhz. I there is no need for something like that. 🙂
