LiquidSmooth ROM for Galaxy Note 2! [Android 4.2.2 + Root + UI Customization]

For this week’s ROM of the week, check out LiquidSmooth ROM for your Galaxy Note 2.

Available for nearly all Galaxy Note 2s including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, international GT-N7100/GT-N7105, the LiquidSmooth ROM brings the latest bleeding edge of Android 4.2.2, root, and UI customizations to your Note 2.

For Canadian users, you can use AT&T or T-Mobile versions by matching the first 7 letters of your model number. E.g. If you have a SGH-i317M, then you can install AT&T SGH-i317 ROM.

For Korean users with SHV-E250 series, you can use AT&T version coupled with AOSP SJKernels. (I haven’t tested this yet though not sure if SJKernels support Android 4.2.2 but should be compatible. At the worst you will probably end up in a bootloop but I am pretty sure it will boot fine.)

With LiquidSmooth ROM, you can expect all the goodness of Android 4.2.2, UI customizations like AOKP, Xposed App Settings built-in (see How to Setup Xposed App Settings here), and even overclocking available for several variants like AT&T, T-Mobile, and more.

Remember though that you will lose all of your TouchWiz powers such as Multi-window, Smart Stay/Rotation, this isn’t a ROM for the feeble-minded but for those of you who want to run “pure” Android.

If this is something along the lines of what you want to do, definitely give it a go this week and let me know what you think but I think you will like it if you like AOSP ROMs.

To install, reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset (unless coming from another AOSP-based ROM, do make a backup ROM just in case also), install ROM, wipe cache, and reboot.
Once your ROM boots fine, reboot into recovery and install Gapps to get Play Store. If you want to install kernel, reboot into recovery again and install kernel at the end.

If you end up in a bootloop, try re-installing ROM from the very start (just wiping cache will not work) and make sure to wipe cache before rebooting.

Bugs: Korean font is broken, so if you need to read Korean, don’t install this ROM!

I enjoy using AOSP roms, Im currently on ParanoidAndroid. LiquidSmooth looks great, and from my understanding Xposed is equivalent to the “hybrid mode” on ParanoidAndroid. Which one do you guys prefer and why?

    • Max Lee says:

it all depends but paranoid android is better since it gives u more options but xposed is also great since it can run on any rom even touchwiz.

  3. John says:

What would do you recommend for backing up stock rom?

  4. cellphonejunky00 says:

hey max i facebook you not to long ago you didnt reply i just trying to ask you a question since you are more advance than me, i have a galaxy note2 with sprint and i couldnt get wifi tether to work on it even after i rooted plus i was paying way to much over $100 a month. I was getting frustrated because im in school and i need the internet when im at work sometimes on break to get some homework done, anyway long story short, i find a friend who help me flash it over to verizon prepaid for only fifty bucks a month with unlimited talk text and web, 3g. my question is which rom should i put on it to work since its now flash over to verizon network?

Has anyone got “app2sd” working on this ROM?? If so, how??

  6. frank says:

No multi windows is no a good Rom. I stay with jediX..

  7. Mario says:

It is same or exactly the same as carbon rom, but slightly buggy . although this X posed is quite nice. And my battery wasn’t quite as I expected. But to be honest, all 4.2 roms are using battery more then 4.1. Specially with perseus kernel.

  8. John says:

someone explain to me why google search would not work with this rom…? tried re-installing the rom and gapps but no dice…

  9. ghostSTL says:

Just to let you know……external SD card does not work with this root. Warning.

    • Rocky D says:

Ive been using that new feature in Facebook Messenger, where its like a walkie-talkie. And i also had this problem while using this rom.

  11. Derrick says:

Just installed this on my T-Mobile Note2. Your links don’t work. So I installed the n7100 version. Works fine, I just can’t use my tmobile sim card. Are you gonna fix your links?

    • Rocky D says:

You should NEVER flash a rom made for another phone onto yours!!! Although the name is the same “Note 2” all versions from all the different carriers have different internals. Not completely different internals but different. At the bottom of the post above i believe where it says “Credits” click on the XDA link to go directly to the post on XDA-Devlopers website. Be smart!

Hey has anyone run into the problem while sending MMS to your friends. I cant send pictures. On my GS3 with cm10 I needed to switch from 4g to 3g and it would work but on my Note 2 its not working. Pleace help

    • HeathCliff Rothman says:

I have the same problem. I can’t send pictures with MMS. I called Verizon who thought it was my SIM Card, and they’re sending me a new card. But if others are having it, it’s not a SIM card issue. Have you had any success yet, or gotten a response?

  16. ghostSTL says:

1)External SD card is eather combined with the internal files or not working. The directory is all messed up i cant tell whats external or internal??
2)Netfilx will not stream. You can install it, run it, but once you try and play a movie it just stays at loading screen.
    3) Lost external speaker on phone. HUGE disavantage while talking on a note 2

  20. HeathCliff Rothman says:

I have the same problem as Javier G. I can’t send pictures with MMS. I called Verizon who thought it was my SIM Card, and they’re sending me a new card. But if others are having it, it’s not a SIM card issue. It’s a root issue? Or is it my ROM – which is Jedi X. Any suggestions?

    • Craig says:

I’m having the same issue with JediX/Verizon, I get the ‘invalid destination address’ message when I try to send a picture and it says Message Failed. Sounds like a root issue. I’ll let me know if you find a workaround.

  21. Brian says:

Your download links do not work. I click the link and it goes to a blank download screen

  22. Rocky D says:

I tried this rom out for a couple of days. The first day it worked fine, than after that i got serious glitches / freezes / and system crashes. Back to AllianceRom :-). Very surprising as i loved the LiquidSmooth rom on my S3, it was very very stable!

  23. Ray says:

I have never used 1 rom that has no issues…they all have bugs and give Android a bad name tbh

    • Rocky D says:

I hear you, BUT. I have used several rom’s on my Note 2 that have been completely bug-free. However, every rom that i have tried that was an AOSP/AOKP or both have been full of bugs. Mostly the stock based rom’s are the ones that have been bug-free in my experience. Here are a few:

      1. WanamLite Rom.
      2. Omega Rom.
      3. AllianceRom. ( <- Currently running)

      • Ray says:

Which one would you say is the best for smoothness…I just want one as smooth as when I bought my phone with multi window and Android 4.2.1 keyborad..

        Is there a link?

        • Rocky D says:

Hey, well its not just the ROM, i also use a custom kernel. I am sporting the international Note 2. Which one do you have?

  24. Ray says:

I use a Wind Mobile (Canada) Note 2 so like the US Tmobile version.

really appreciate if you can help me out man!

  25. Joey Novak says:

    Download links are not working…

  26. Robert Hein says:

Everything is mostly working great for my SGH-I317M. I have noticed that the camera app always hangs if I use the flash or auto flash, otherwise it works perfect. I was also using Bluetooth in the car today, it was working but the sound quality over the speaker in the car was awful, however my wife said she could hear me just fine. So far I’m liking it…..nice change

  27. cjayongn2 says:

had to format my ext sd after installing this rom. good thing i had a backup. restore back to novella. ill wait

  28. Andrew says:

Can I use Titanium backup with this after installing from the stock touchwiz rom on the note 2?

  29. Mohammed says:

    Hey max, thanks!

Everything about this rom is cool so far except the camera app. If i try to open it, I get a “Camera error” saying “Can’t connect to the camera”…

I have SGH-T889V. It’s weird because if I use airdroid app to scan qr code, it works but sideways and distorted :/

Any ideas? Is there a way to remove the camera app and use a different one by default? Thanks.

  30. Kalvin Boodoo says:

just downloaded liquid smooth ROM after downloading phone cannot recognize my 64 gig sd card .
says SD card is damage I had to reformat lose all my data on SD card I switch back to jelly bean rom 7

  31. Joey says:

My phone cannot access the AT&T network after installing this rom. I flashed back to the AOKP rom and I still cannot connect to the network. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  32. kalvin boodoo says:

Jelly Bean rom Build 7 . The best rom I’ve flashed so far on my Verizon note 2.
No issues . Non what’s so ever. Tons of features .

Recently flashed liquid smooth . Waste of time and lost all my pictures on my sd card .
    Had to fomat sd card.

Before flashing any rom make sure you do a back up on device SD CARD or else you’re screwed.

  33. Nehad says:

I am getting some different language in rom pls tell me wat to do
    i am pissed offf

  34. Brian says:

Does the pen work on this rom?

  35. Mohammed says:

Yes S Pen works but don’t see the airview stuff. However you can go settings > language and input > show icon when using stylus

  36. Mohammed says:

Just noticed an issue when you have keyboard open in chrome and go recent apps then go back to chrome it crashes. Anyone else get this?

  37. Mark Conroy says:

I also had an issue with attempting to use my 64GB external SD Card. Apart from that seems smooth, stable and not too hard on battery.

My galaxy note 2 sprint variant is currently running 4.1.2 but I want to root it which or the many processes will work I know how to root but can’t find a method for sprint note 2 on 4.1.2 .

    • Mohammed says:

Never tried it myself, but I think if you go to settings > about phone > update center, it does some stuff with on this rom

    • Rocky D says:

Thats NOT how you update these roms lol!! You have to goto the roms original OP and find out and manually install each update! You see in the article above it says “Credits”? Click on your corresponding carrier to goto the proper OP for your phone (If you have an AT&T or Rogers/Bell/Telus i747 click on AT&T, for Wind Mobile & Mobilicity click on T-Mobile, etc). Once you are in the appropriate forum post, check and see if there is a newer version of the rom available. If there is and you would like to flash it WITHOUT loosing all your apps / settings follow this procedure:

      1. Download the ROM + Gapps.
      2. Boot into Recovery.
      3. *(Optional): Make a nandroid backup!
      4. Wipe cache.
      5. Wipe Dalvik Cache.
      6. Goto “Mounts & Storage” and format /system.
      7. Goto Install Zip from SD card.
      8. Navigate to where you saved the roms + gapps. Choose & flash the rom.
      9. Flash the gapps.
      10. Wipe cache.
      11. Wipe Dalvik Cache.
      12. Reboot & enjoy! (WITHOUT LOOSING any apps or settings!)

  40. Phillip says:

Can someone please help me get free WiFi tethering working, i have tried downloading trevmod and cant get it to work, also tried using the native wifi tethering on the rom still not working

    • Mohammed says:

The native one works for me.. You could try foxfi and pdanet though

    • Isaiah Crowell says:

If your using the sprint variant then u have to download titanium back up and remove the two wifi files in the phone and then download trevmod and it will work

      • Isaiah Crowell says:

Make sure you back those files up first b4 you uninstal them so later if you want you can put them back

      • Phillip says:

what 2 files do I remove

        • Isaiah Crowell says:

There will be two files one right after the other named wifi direct or of that sort the only wifi files you will see and back them up then remove them next instal trevmod and then reboot and you will have a working hot spot

          • Stuart Smith says:

I just ran into this problem on my S3 (1747). Where on the device are the two files located that I can delete? I can’t seem to find them. Thanks.

How do I turn on USB otg on this ROM

  46. ghoststl says:

Im like 4.2.2 update however this rom sucks…..

Stick with whompasuarus rom. Much better

    • Patrick says:

I would disagree this rom is great very stable so far, and I like the endless customization options. I was able to get over the loss of S-pen by simply downloading apps that do the same thing and my pen still works. Some are actually better then the ones that come with the phone.
