Omni ROM for Galaxy Note 2! [OmniSwitch]

For this week’s Galaxy Note 2 ROM of the week, check out (again) the latest Omni ROM.  Omni ROM is available for all Note 2 variants including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, GT-N7105, and GT-N7100.

Based on latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Omni ROM brings you more stability than ever with everything working out of the box. (multi-window is not working yet but should be soon…)

What’s new?

Omni ROM has released their new “OmniSwitch”.  Very similar to PIE Controls (but better and simplified), it’s a quick-swipe shortcuts menu that allows you to easily switch between apps, kill apps, etc…etc…

Other than that, Omni ROM seems to be the most stable AOSP ROM out there currently and if you are looking for the most stable Android 4.4.2 KitKat experience, definitely give the latest Omni ROM a test drive this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

BEFORE INSTALLING, UPGRADE your CWM Recovery to v6.0.4.1 or higher using ROM Manager App from the Play Store.  Also if using TWRP, use Goo Manager app to update to v2.6.3.3 or higher.  Otherwise you will FAIL during install!  You can also install CWM Recovery manually here.

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot.   (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

I’ve tried this rom and the Carbon nightly 4.4.2 but neither have picked up a cell signal. Any ideas if this is just a user ID10T error?

    • JBD says:

This just happens to me last week, I lost total signal on my cell I try a lot things but the only one the work’s was do total whipped memory unroot back to stock and re root again like first time after do that I got better signal even the 4g.hoping this help you some.

    • Austin says:

use CWM Recovery and make sure its the most updated version of it when you flash the ROM

    • Dan says:

Sounds kinda like you deleted your efs partition accidentally, does it say something like “mobile network not avaiable” when you boot up? If so you’ll have to factory reset the phone with keys

      • Nomad says:

I had the same issue tonight. I did a full wipe of everything since I was changing distros, and was having issues. I wanted to start clean.

What I was able to do since I had it downloaded already, is I tried the updated modems I had used on the other distro. It worked. I figured if it didn’t… I’d be back at square one again anyway.

    • Dennis says:

I had the same problems and the only one that seems to work for me is AOSB Probam tolte, excellent rom no problems on my note 2.

It’s amazing that they are still developing ROMs for the Note II when the Note III is out but I’l try it when I get a chance. I settled with Bobcat as my daily driver and real happy with it!

  4. kat says:

Try dn3 rom. The best! Rom for life. 🙂

    • steve says:

I agree. Ditto Note 3 is the now the best Note 2 rom. If I could only use it with devil dual boot with constant freezing, it would be the very best. Dual boot let you be able to run 2 rom at once. Best of both worlds touchwiz and AOSP. The new Note 2 MIUI is a very impressive rom also. For people that don’t know. DN3 is a note 2 rom with everything from the note 3 ported over and I mean everything. So far runs great

    • Gato Travieso says:

DN3 Rom …is not for Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH L900..I Google it and is only for Galaxy 2 1700 ..if someone know the right link for DN3 for sprint note 2…Please let me know.

    • Kool says:

DN3 nor for Sprint Note 2 Sph L900

DN3 not for Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH L900…if you know the right link to check it out..please let me know.

Is this better than CM 10?

  6. Austin says:

Been waiting forever for a new ROM on here and they use the same ROM as the last one… disappointing really…

  7. Oscar says:

Dude when are you going to do ditto or sky rom. I’m on ditto and if you want touchwiz then this is the best rom. Three months almost since the last “rom of the week” and it’s an update to the last one. I know you have the note 3 but if that’s the case then let us know you won’t be working on this site as much.

    • steve says:

I was just thinking the same thing.
1 DN3. All note 3 features ported over
2 Sky Note. Has one with ported note 3 features and one that is as as stable as any.
3 MIUI. Look under same developer as Sky Note rom.

      • ryan says:

        They all posted on xda?

I haven’t checked this site in like 2 months because the gnIII came out and I knew this place would die.

  8. Joe says:

Post videos on Instagram works on this ROM?

  9. Taka says:

OK everything is good on this ROM but for some reason my root somehow isn’t rooted after flashing ROM. I can’t restore my files on TB since it keeps saying my device is not rooted. I have the Verizon Note 2.

  10. Marshall says:

I am not able to upgrade my TWRP to the newest version???

  11. Meyou says:

    Finally, Max. Been waiting.

  12. daniel says:

hey man when i install this rom i loose my root how ican get it back please help anyone

    • Lennard Pinto says:

You need to manually install superuser from the play store or sideload it and your root will function again.

  13. harry says:

I m not able to access the rooted apps as it is asking for the super user permissions. How can I find the SU permissions in omni ROM???

    Pls help…

  14. harry says:

And also it is taking a lot of battery consumption… How to fix that also???

    • Marty says:

I’m surprised, wasn’t expecting much in the way of battery from a non-touchwiz rom but its actually been pretty good so far. As for the people raving about ditto note 3, sure it had recent features but I found touchwiz 4.3 really crap compared with 4.1.2 along with poor battery life. On Jedi X 20 with a zerolemon battery I get usually 4-5 days, with DN3 I was lucky to get 2 1/2, and on 4.3 responsiveness is a lot slower. Just my opinion

      • steve says:

I agree with the battery comment, but had better battery on different kernels but it is a little worse. I found battery life better on sky rom. To me, as long as I get a full day, I don’t care. It’s the price you pay for the new features

    • jkasal says:

Same issue here too. SuperSU hosed.
Also hosed my clockworkmod recovery. When I boot into recovery it now boots into the Odin mode. Odin can’t copy anything to it… Not Good.

      • jkasal says:

LOL, Disregard the odin part. That was stupid…. Up vs Down on the volume is huge.

The SuperSU part is still true, I’m going to try updating supersu from zip.. Standby

  15. Jose says:

Is there any way to go back to 4.3 from 4.4?

  16. angel says:

is it just me or the GPS and Screenshot features not working?

  17. Breezmon says:

I’m trying to figure out if I’m the only one having an issue with the inbound/outbound calls not showing up where you can see who is on the other end. Can’t use speaker phone or mute or nothing, however calls still work if you put up to your ear. Also issues with sometimes home button doesn’t open phone up to use screen just stays black.Have been doing nightly’s to hopefully fix this issue but will try and wipe everything before flashing nightly this time to see what happens. Can anyone help?

  18. Eric says:

Still not very stable…. Love the layout but still has some bugs that need to be addressed.

  19. Dan says:

    Note 2 t mobile sgh t889

Omni ROM didn’t work when I tried to install via the latest CWM . TWRP initially didin’t work either but I got the newest version Odin (v3.09) and TWRP ( and then I was able to try omni. Reallly nice software but I lost my phone service somewhere in the mix so I recovered back to Jedi Master ROM. I’ll try omni again when it’s compatible with my model. I thought since it was offered for t mobile note 2’s mine would be fine but this one isn’t working with sgh t889. I hope they make one soon.

  20. Nicholas says:

Hey, anyone who installs a kitkat 4.4 rom on their t889 note 2 for T-Mobile (tags) should know that they lost cell service due to a new feature that was added to android known as Selinux. It’s an issue with permissible access that can be resolved with an app from XDA: SELinuxModeChanger

  21. Bry says:

Can not get root back on Verizon sch-i605. Could someone please post some sort of instructions on what I need to do? I’m fairly new to this, so please simplify somewhat.

  22. Paul says:

All of the AOSP ROMs I have tried so far always lost their Korean language feature. I need to have Korean language to read some of my text messages or messages from Kakao. Will this ROM have Korean language?

I have the Tmo Note 2. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get the bluetooth tethering option on my phone via an apk file or maybe a custom ROM with that option?

  25. fred says:

OMNI ROM is Great except a few glitches.
Loss of super user. Tried several methods to get it back but with no luck.
Could not keep web favorites due to the browser being different.
Sms default app is now HANGOUTS. This is a big deal breaker for me.
    Calender would not sync over.
Overall tho the rom is fantastic, super fast and light build. Ill try it agian as soon as they iron out some wrinkles.

  26. erika says:

    Hey guys!
I’m running omni & flashed using cwm, but for some reason I can’t get gapps to flash. Any thoughts? I used the file links from here.
Is it something I’m doing wrong or missing? I’ve been reading/googling most of the day trying find a solution.
Lmk if more info is needed. I’m a bit of a noob & any insight is greatly appreciated!

  27. Joshua Speer says:

I can’t figure why the screen shuts off as soon as i answer a call or make one. I can sometimes trick it into turning on. I’ll be damned if I can find the call settings on my note 2 from verizon. anyone? I love the rom but that can’t happen.

  28. michael says:

Is it just me or is anyone else having problems with the download link? When i click on it and go to enter the captcha the page just realoads…..

  29. MohamedG says:

IVR is not working here too, actually it isn’t working on any custom ROM build over anything but touchwiz, any ideas about the reasons or fixs ?

  30. Julio says:

My phone calls are very low and distorted? Any suggestions. Sph l900

  31. Ralph says:

I love the rom but i have a few issues—
1- Sound when i put my headset on is really low and dont know how to adjust it to be at normal level
2- I try and send picture messages thru Hangouts and as soon as I attach the picture it crashes and even if i close the app and go in it unexpectedly crashes over and over. Is there any fixes for this?
3- My lock screen has disappeared and when i turn it on it goes straight to my home screen… dont like that, anyone know how to enable the lock screen?

I love this rom but if this is unstable would I have any other option or recommendations for a KIT KAT rom?
running AT&T Note 2 on Tmobile

    thanks in advanced!

  32. DennisP says:

I’m on the 4/27/2014 nightly on my i317 (AT&T) Note 2. I came from DN3 4.3. I did restores from Helium backup on several apps. The things I’ve tested seem ok (including 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi, calls, gps, etc.) except for a few FCs that are fixed by clearing app data. On earlier nightlies (e.g., 4/13/2014, there were hiccups when watching Netflix shows), this issue did not happen on the 4/27/2014 nightly. Bluetooth to my car with tags on the stereo were working on the 4/13 nightly too. Only problem I’m seeing is that the cell signal fluctuates. Signal bars go from none to 3 and in between. I can still make a call but when I see no bars, I get nervous. I have a signal strength widget and I see that fluctuate too. LTE works when I get just 1 bar (-114 dbm). I see this rom does not flash modem so I’m using the I317UCALJ2 baseband.

  33. Roryw says:

The turn by turn navigation does not work in Google maps. It will locate current location. But will not move past that. It constantly says it’s searching for location. Wondering if it’s my gps not working or it’s an issue with Google maps. Any help would be appreciated

    • DennisP says:

I’ve used 4/13 nightly quite a bit on a different Note 2 i317 that I sold. I’ve used Waze navigation successfully and without any issues I can think of. On my other Note 2 i317 (which I still have), I confirmed on the 4/27 nightly that Waze (another GPS driving app) works. I’ve used “GPS Test” and “GPS status” and have gotten GPS lock without problem.

I’ll try Google maps sometime — didn’t get a chance as I’m using a motorcycle for commuting due to warmer weather. I’ve only installed 4/27 nightly Apr 27th noon time.

On another topic, with good LTE towers nearby on AT&T network, LTE connects well and got about 26Mbps down.

    • DennisP says:

I had a chance to try Google maps. I first went to Waze as I usually do and that was working normally. I then turned off Waze and switched to Google maps. Looks like that worked normally too. The only thing is that I had to enable GPS high accuracy mode. I think it was set to “Device Only” mode initially. The only annoying thing is that you are asked to consent to using the ‘high accuracy’ mode; this is a kitkat thing. I know there’s an xposed module to disable that — I used it when I was on my other Note 2 on the 4/13 nightly and it worked nicely.

  34. Lunchbox says:

Which version of this ROM has screen recording?

  35. jaison says:

I have not gotten any delta nightly updates since 11/26/14. They used to come nightly, but nothing since before thanksgiving. Did development stop or am I missing something. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
